Disney

Here’s where we’ve been the last several days:

Disney World!

We took Jacob (and not Molly- sorry! :( ) to Orlando to celebrate his upcoming fifth birthday.  I have lots of pictures; I don’t know how many I’ll get around to sharing, though.

Here are some highlights:

  • All four of our flights were smooth and uneventful.  That’s a highlight given that the last two plane rides I’ve been on were nightmarish.
  • Jacob wore the ‘Happy Birthday!’ pin the resort gave him around EVERYWHERE we went.  He pointed it out to every waitress at every restaurant in which we dined- and finagled his way into free desserts everywhere.  He is such a con artist.

  • We left Mickey’s Backyard BBQ a little early so that the other children could get a chance to dance with Mickey.  Jacob LOVED dancing with Mickey.  ;)   Here’s a snap of him (and his fruit punch mustache) keeping a watchful eye on the little girl looking to cut in on his dance time.

  • We watched the Magic Kingdom fireworks from a pirate cruise one night.  Good times.
  • We had breakfast with several Disney characters.
  • It was Star Wars weekend (a.k.a. A Dream Come True for Jacob) at Hollywood Studios when we were there.

(^^^Clone Troopers are Jacob’s favorite.  :) )

  • Jacob rode every ’scary’ ride at Disney World… one time.  He wouldn’t do any of those twice.  ;)   Here he and Sal are on Expedition Everest in the Animal Kingdom.  They’re in the front:

Can’t see them?  Hmmm, see if this helps illuminate the look of sheer terror of being chased by a yeti before plummeting down a steep hill while sitting in the first car:

:P

  • We hit every park in five days (more like 3.25 really).  Some of our days started at 6 in the morning and didn’t stop until after 1 a.m. But I would do it all again.  Despite the picture above, Jacob had an amazing and, yes, ‘magical’ time at Disney.  He didn’t want to leave.  It was worth the swollen, pregnant lady feet to see him so happy there.  But, next time, we won’t be leaving Miss Molly at home.  I missed her too much!

For my bad memory

Posted on May 26, 2010

Jacob finished his last day of preschool a few days ago.  Next year, he’ll head to kindergarten- a fact that is both exciting and scary for him.

The exciting part?  “I’ll be even taller and bigger then!”

The scary part?  “I won’t get to wave at you every morning anymore.”

Yes, every school day for the past several months, as other moms and dads whizzed past headed to work or back home or wherever other people go during the day, I waited at the side of the parking lot until my sweet boy appeared in the little hole among the bushes/weeds?/whatever between some buildings at his school.  The route he took to his classroom every day led him past this spot- which he pointed out to me and instructed me to watch for him one day.  I did, and thus began our daily ritual of waving, blowing kisses, and shouting out, “I love you, Mom!” as other kids walked on to class behind him.  As the year went on, Molly started demanding her window be rolled down, too, so she could throw a few kisses and yell, “JaaayJaaaaaaaaayyy!!!!!”

Jacob has always been a proud ‘Mama’s Boy’ and has a tendency to develop a little separation anxiety (apparently even months ahead of an anticipated separation).  I love him to bits.  And, I’m sure I’ll miss seeing his sweet little face on his way to class next year, too.  For now, I’m just going to enjoy the summer with him.

One day, I’m sure I’ll look back in disbelief that there was ever a time when my big boy wanted to take every possible opportunity to blow kisses to his mom and shout his adoration.  So, for my bad memory, there’s this:

Baby Camille will be joining our family in late September/ early October if all goes as planned.  (That’s her cute little profile above, by the way.)

The End.

Sit back and relax

After dropping Jacob off at school every weekday morning (only three more days of that!), Molly and I usually come  back to the house and have breakfast outside on the courtyard while watching a little PBS Kids.  Jacob didn’t even get to watch any TV until he was two, but Molly is a Super Why addict at almost 18 months.  Oh well.

And while she watches, she really gets comfortable:

I don’t know where she learned that;)

Today…

Posted on May 12, 2010

… was a good day.

We visited with family, shared a delicious Pizza Shack lunch with them (and had dinner leftovers! ;) ), swam with friends, and both kids tuckered out early.  Oh, and there was kite flying.

(Have I ever mentioned that Jacob is a kite flying master???  He is.  I can remember running around all over the place as a kid with a nose-down kite skidding along the ground behind me; Jacob just launches kites.  No skidding.  Ever.  We always knew he’d find a sport eventually.  :P )

Even Molly took command of the kite a few times.

Jacob insisted I hold the kite while he took my picture.  Because he “REALLY wants a picture of me flying the kite to put in [his] room”.  Here’s his shot:

(Very artsy.  ;)   And we’ll go ahead and count this as my twenty-weeks-pregnant-belly-picture since I probably won’t take one otherwise.  So, thanks for that, Jacob! :) )
